Loaded Container Handler
A loaded handler typically has a lift capacity of 80,000lbs at the 5 high position. The spreader is typically a 20’-40’, but they are capable of handling loaded 53’ container. The most common loaded handler goes to 5 high. However, machines with 6 high reach do exist. The most common models were the 950 and 955 Taylor loaded handler. Current models are 975 and 976.
Brands and Engines:
The brands we prefer to focus on are Taylor Machine Works, Hyster, and Caterpillar. The European makes are difficult to get parts quickly and parts are costly. The most common engine used is the Cummins, with Detroit and Caterpillar lagging behind. The most common transmission is Clark.
When purchasing a container handler several considerations should be made. What was or is the current conditions of use. The terrain, volume of containers moved, hours on the machine, and service history. Container handlers should be inspected for stress cracks, drivetrain, mast & spreader issues, and hydraulics. Yellow Deck has an expert available to make these inspections.
Cab Air conditioning, Cab heater, integral mast scales, and auto lubricating systems.
