Refrigerated Trailer Size Options:

Refrigerated trailers aka Reefer Trailers in the USA come in 5 standard sizes: 28’, 40’, 45’, 48 and 53’. Some variations and custom sizes do exist, but these are the most common. The standard width is 102”. However, some special application 96” wide are available. The standard exterior height is 13’6”, which is 103.5” inside height. Usable interior length is 51.6’ ON A 53’ Reefer.

Insulation:

The insulation in reefer trailers can vary. The range is 2.5” to 4”. Interior walls are fiberglass FRP panels. Floors are aluminum. The floors are available in 3 standard formats: 1) t floor, 2) grooved, 3) and flat smooth. The latter 2 more common in grocery and certain food service applications. Long haul reefer operators use the deep T-FLOOR.

Refrigeration Units:

The refrigeration unit is up to the operators requirements. Only 2 major refrigeration unit manufacturers exist in the USA market: Thermo King and Carrier Refrigeration. The temperature range and number of evaporators is dependent on the operational demands. The rear doors are either ROLL UP or Swing Door. Long haul reefer operators usually have swing doors. The local operators use roll up doors often with a curb side door option.
